Job Summary

As a Direct Support Professional (DSP) Intern, you'll assist individuals in achieving their goals, learning life skills, and becoming more integrated into the community. You will work under the guidance of experienced staff to implement individual person-centered plans, assist, in daily living tasks, and support individuals in their educational, social, and employment pursuits.


This internship is designed for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in nursing, education, social work, or human services. You'll work in diverse environments, including individuals' homes, workplaces, and volunteer settings, and help create an inclusive, supportive community for all.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with daily living skills like personal care, cooking, and cleaning to promote independence.

  • Support individuals in achieving their goals as outlined in their person-centered plans.

  • Introduce community opportunities (e.g., employment, volunteering) and help individuals connect with local resources.

  • Provide skill development through hands-on education and support, focusing on increasing independence.

  • Coordinate with employers/volunteer sites and assist with communication on behalf of the individual.

  • Complete accurate documentation of services provided and ensure timely submission of paperwork.


Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma

  • Must be currently enrolled in a relevant academic program (e.g., social work, human services, psychology, special education, or a related field).

  • Compassionate, flexible, and patient attitude toward individuals with disabilities.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Willingness to adapt to new situations and work in a variety of environments (individuals' homes, workplaces, community settings).

  • Must be able to meet physical requirements, including lifting, walking, and assisting with mobility.


Work Schedule:

Flexible hours, with availability for weekend, evening, and overnight sleep shifts. The schedule will be mutually agreed upon to align with both the intern's academic commitments and the needs of the individuals served.
